Missional Church Convocation 2012
July 26-28, 2012
You will find the Convocation to be an integrating experience because it weaves together -
Just good conversation: Wherever you are on your journey, here is a space for new and renewed friendships. Our journey as faithful and fruitful church in today's context involves partners and collaborators, co-conspirators and friends. It is not a journey in isolation but in community. Experience the Center's learning community, and expand your contact with those seeking to live a missional way.
Reflecting on texts in context:
Past participants say that one of the most valued and unique parts of their experience is the time of Bible study. These spaces offer the moments of conversation and integration, as participants reflect on key note presentations, hold sacred text open before them, bringing their ministry and life experience into the room with them, in their conversation together. The Bible study this year, developed by Inagrace Dietterich, will provide opportunity to be engaged by the Psalms, the early church’s book of worship and practical theology!
Discovering what’s going on:
In the midst of theological and practical ministry dialogue, we hold our cultural context very much in mind. The church never exists in a vacuum, and its worship is not disembodied of the world, but seeks to engage with its world-altering practices. The convocation brings a keen attentiveness to the contours of the worldly situation where the church lives out its incarnational witness.
Let’s have some fun: The Cenacle Conference Center is an urban retreat destination, with avenues of quiet solitude or busy streets, quiet parks, lakefront, or gardens. The options of arts and entertainment are right here in the Lincoln Park neighborhood in Chicago too, downtown is a short bus trip, with Wrigley Field just a walk away.
